INK Student Newspaper

INK is published by students in Kirby’s Journalism course. Our award-winning school newspaper is regularly recognized by the Columbia School of Journalism, the National Scholastic Press Association, and Quill & Scroll for its quality reporting:

2011: “Pieces of the Puzzle” was awarded Honorable Mention for Best News Story of the Year by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.

2010: “Hot Water” was awarded First Place for Best News Story of the Year by the National Scholastic Press Association, and also received a Certificate of Merit for Best In-Depth Feature from The Columbia Scholastic Press Association.

2009: “Not a Talking Day” was selected as a National Winner for General Columns by Quill & Scroll, “Fractured Focus” was also selected as a National Winner by Quill & Scroll for Best In-Depth Team article, and “Red Alert” was a National Winner for News.

2008: “One Bite at a Time” was selected as a National Winner for General Columns by Quill & Scroll, and “The Road to Tanzania” was also selected as a National Winner by Quill & Scroll for Best In-Depth Team article and received Honorable Mention in the 2009 Story of the Year competition sponsored by the National Scholastic Press Association. “Queer Factor” and “Talkin’ ‘bout Me Generation” received Certificates of Merit from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for General Feature.

2007: “Eat This!” won Third Place in international competition for 2007 Story of the Year from the National Scholastic Press Association, was a National Winner with Quill & Scroll, and received a Certificate of Merit from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. In addition, “Two Moms are Better than One” received the Gold Circle Award for Best Personal Experience from the Columbia School of Journalism and was selected National Winner in the General Columns Category of Quill & Scroll.

2006: “The Disappeared” received the Columbia School of Journalism’s Gold Circle Award for Best In-Depth Newswriting and First Place rating for Best In-Depth Investigative Writing from Quill & Scroll. “Rock Like an Egyptian” garnered a First Place rating from Quill and Scroll.
