Parents with an interest in gifted and talented programs are encouraged to attend this free informational meeting. A representative from the John Hopkins Center for Talented Youth will present information about testing and the enrichment programs for gifted children in grades 2 through 8. For a flyer click here. Cyber Safety expert Lori Getz provides resources for parents and teachers to talk with children about Cyber Security and navigating the Internet safely and securely. Ms. Getz is the founder and director of Cyber Education Consultants (www.yourcec.org) in Los Angeles and has developed a Cyber Education curriculum for schools throughout California. Hollywood-wannabe Star, the ultimate Beatles fan, has her plans stymied by cystic fibrosis, an inherited disease that assures a young death. She spends most of her time in the hospital, where she confronts fate with imagination. Enter Courtney, Star’s new roommate, and Star’s opposite – a pretty, popular cheerleader who is apparently not seriously sick. Neither girl knows much about the others world, but slowly they come to understand each other, and ultimately, themselves, in this powerful play about living life to the fullest.
We encourage everyone to stay and join us for a talk back following the Saturday night and Sunday matinee performances. The forum will be led by Victoria Rue, who has extensive experience working with hospices and is a very accomplished teacher, counselor and Priest. Learn more about Victoria on her website.

Celebrate the holiday season with an evening of exceptional music. The Winter Concert features the talents of individual students as well as ensembles including the Chamber Ensemble, Chamber Choir, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Choir, Treble Choir, and Chorus. Santa Cruz County National History Day Competition

National History Day is a national history-research competition that judges group and individual projects at a variety of levels: school, county, state, and national. This is the first ever Santa Cruz County National History Day contest, and the theme this year is “Debate and Diplomacy in History: Successes, Failures, Consequences.” The deadline to register is January 3rd and there is a $10 registration fee per student. Six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser. THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE is a hilarious tale of overachievers’ angst chronicling the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime.

Dance Performance 2011: “The Limits of Language”

Kirby Dance company and friends will be presenting their annual year-end dance concert at Bethany University Theater on May 19th at 7 pm. The concert will include a variety of dances from student, faculty and guest choreographers.
The dances are an eclectic blend of styles from Bollywood to Lyrical to Hip Hop and even a martial arts sword dance! The guest choreographers are Brance Souza , a renowned local choreographer who has worked with All About Theater for many years; Mckenzie Cullum, daughter of Kirby’s own drama teacher, Marnae Taylor and Jenna Purcell, a UCSC senior who has distinguished herself with her unique blend of traditional modern, ballet and lyrical choreography.
Admission: $10 general, $8 seniors/students.
